Blood Orange, tangy citrus fruit - The blood orange is a variety of Mediterranean orange, fruit of the orange tree Citrus sinensis, with a pulp color which tends towards bright red. This coloration progresses inwardly as the fruit matures and is explained by the presence of anthocyanin, a type of pigment. Apart from a few red spots on its skin, its external appearance is similar to that of an ordinary orange. Thanks to wide variations in temperature and high exposure to sunlight, the Sicilian climate is just right for growing wonderful varieties of blood oranges. Ponthier has therefore selected balanced and tasty oranges, grown in wonderfully fertile land.
